Recap: North Buncombe Black Hawks vs. Smoky Mountain Mustangs
The North Buncombe Black Hawks struggled with offensive rebounds on Tuesday (the Smoky Mountain Mustangs had 900% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Buncombe took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smoky Mountain. North Buncombe has not had much luck with Smoky Mountain recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, North Buncombe saw an underclassman step up: Aubrey Gilliland dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Gilliland scored a full 32.3% of North Buncombe's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mikenzi Carr, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smoky Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Greenlee Flynn, who scored 9 points along with 14 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayritzis Chinea, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
North Buncombe's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Smoky Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
North Buncombe will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Henderson at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully North Henderson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Smoky Mountain, they will head out on the road to face off against Swain County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
