Baseball Game Preview: Pompton Lakes Cardinals vs. Glen Rock Panthers

The Pompton Lakes Cardinals will square off against the Glen Rock Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pompton Lakes' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Glen Rock's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pompton Lakes proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Butler a 1-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

The result came thanks to Vinnie Stigliano's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Pompton Lakes' win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Angelo Fusaro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Chad McConnell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Glen Rock put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology as they made off with a 15-0 victory. Give the Panthers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

D Stutske looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Zack Silberstien and Maddox Tennant did most of the damage at the plate: Silberstien went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and three runs, while Tennant scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Lagemann, who scored three runs while going 1-for-2.

Glen Rock pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Pompton Lakes, their record is now 5-2.

Pompton Lakes came up short against Glen Rock when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
