Basketball Game Preview: Layton Lancers vs. Syracuse Titans

Layton hasn't had much luck against Syracuse recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Layton Lancers will look to defend their home court against the Syracuse Titans at 5:15 p.m.

Layton is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pleasant Grove.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Taya Pace, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of BrynDee Kozisek, who scored eight points and five assists.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Syracuse). They breezed by Cyprus to the tune of 76-35 on Tuesday. The Titans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 21 points or more this season.

Layton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Syracuse, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Layton lost to Syracuse at home by a decisive 62-45 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Layton, Avery Sanders (who went 10 of 21 on her way to 26 points along with six steals and five boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
