Baseball Game Preview: Union Area Scotties vs. Summit Academy Knights

Union Area is a perfect 4-0 against Summit Academy since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Scotties will be playing at home against the Knights at 4:00 p.m. Union Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

If Union Area beats Summit Academy with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Scotties walked away with an 8-4 win over Aquinas Academy on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scotties.

Cole Harper made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Swayze Reighert, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dom Cucitrone, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Union Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Summit Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Homer-Center, falling 15-0.

Summit Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Union Area, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Union Area took their win against Summit Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 23-0 score. Will the Scotties repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
