Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Portledge

On Sunday, it was close, but the Portledge Panthers sidestepped the La Salle Institute Cadets for an 81-78 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while the Cadets are ranked 63rd).

Portledge's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for La Salle Institute, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Portledge Panthers face off against the Martin Luther Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for La Salle Institute, they will host Ichabod Crane at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
