High school basketball: Class of 2025 standout Cooper Flagg guides team USA U17 National Team to World Cup semifinals

Incoming Montverde Academy big man leads the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a 106-80 victory over Serbia.

Maine native Cooper Flagg had an impressive outing in Malaga, Spain Friday morning as he finished with game highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds along with four assists, three steals and three blocks in a 106-80 victory over Serbia to send the USA Men's U17 National Team to the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup semifinals.

Despite trailing for the first time in the tournament, the deficit was short-lived as team USA went on an 11-0 run to end the first quarter with a 26-18 lead and didn't trailed for the remainder of the contest.

Flagg led a balanced effort in the win as Koa Peat (17), Äsa Newell (12), Boogie Fland (11), David Castillo (10) and Ronald Holland (10) each scored in double figures while every player on the 12-man roster contributed at least one field goal.

Flagg has been impressive across five games in Spain, averaging 10.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.2 assists for team USA. See highlights from his freshman year at Nokomis (Newport) above.

He was named MaxPreps Maine Player of the Year last season after averaging 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.7 blocks to lead Nokomis (21-2) to the Class A state title.



The highly-regarded 6-foot-8 Class of 2025 forward announced he would be attending three-time defending national champion Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) next season for his sophomore year.
