Softball Recap: Pinellas Park Triumphs

While Pinellas Park's victory against Boca Ciega wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots skirted past the Pirates 8-7. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Patriots also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Madison Wagner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on 15 hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ayanah Wilson, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Birge, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Pinellas Park has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Boca Ciega, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.

Coming up, Pinellas Park will square off against Largo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Boca Ciega, they will welcome Indian Rocks Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.59 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
