Baseball Recap: La Pryor Wins Going Away Against Leakey

La Pryor's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 22-5 margin over the Leakey Eagles. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jericko Cervantez and Achilles Pargas were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cervantez struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Pargas tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cervantez scored three runs while going 1-for-3, while Pargas went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, La Pryor let Dareon Vasquez and Markus Montellano run wild. Vasquez scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Montellano scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Vasquez a new career-high in RBI (two). JoseAngel Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

La Pryor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

With the win, La Pryor broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-5. As for Leakey, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, La Pryor will welcome Charlotte at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. La Pryor is facing Charlotte at the right time seeing as Charlotte is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Leakey, they will take on Menard in a tournament on Thursday. Leakey has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
