Basketball Recap: Gillespie Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Carlinville, Gillespie was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They managed a 59-54 win over the Mt. Olive Wildcats. This was a revenge game for the Miners: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in December of 2025, they had to take a 62-61 loss.

Among those leading the charge was Brayden Enslow, who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was Dane Diesselhorst, who earned 13 points.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Olive had strong showings from David Schoen, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards, and Dexter Frizzo, who went 7-for-17 en route to 19 points.

Gillespie's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-19. As for Mt. Olive, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.

Gillespie wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-36 loss against Southwestern on the 22nd. As for Mt. Olive, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be up against the Tornadoes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.76 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
