Baseball Recap: South Fort Myers Comes Up Short

South Fort Myers was the 11-6 winner over Fort Myers when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. South Fort Myers fell just short of Fort Myers by a score of 4-2 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Wolfpack couldn't push the score so high this time.

Juan Angeles was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Will Flaherty was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Jerry Cruz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

South Fort Myers dropped their record down to 6-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.25 runs. As for Fort Myers, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

South Fort Myers will host Loyola Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fort Myers, they are taking a road trip to challenge Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
