Baseball Game Preview: La Salle Lancers vs. Paraclete Spirits

The La Salle Lancers will face off against the Paraclete Spirits at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Salle will be strutting in after a win while Paraclete will be coming in after a loss.

La Salle is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They skirted past Northview 7-5. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by exactly two runs.

Frane Flores made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. La Salle is undefeated when Flores allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Flores was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Jesse Rios was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Travis Ochoa, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

La Salle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Paraclete's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Serra on Friday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Spirits were not able to get on the board.

Paraclete also got a good showing from Cole Mercier, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

Paraclete's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for La Salle, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

La Salle was able to grind out a solid victory over Paraclete in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 3-0. Does La Salle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Paraclete turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
