Soccer Game Preview: Staunton vs. Waynesboro

The Staunton Storm are taking a road trip to square off against the Waynesboro Little Giants at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Waynesboro will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Staunton extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday. The Storm's defense stepped up to hand Alleghany a 6-0 shutout. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Staunton's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Alleghany are ranked 125th).

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last matchup, Waynesboro made sure to put some goals up on the board against Riverheads on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Gladiators. The victory continues a trend for Waynesboro in their matchups with Riverheads: they've now won seven in a row.

Waynesboro's offense was hitting Riverheads from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. A'Luscio Casas led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Staunton pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 38 goals over those three games. As for Waynesboro, their win bumped their record up to 4-2-1.

Staunton took their victory against Waynesboro in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Little Giants turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
