Softball Recap: South Bend Riley Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

South Bend Riley had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They came out on top against the Morgan Township Cherokees by a score of 10-5.

ELLIANA GONZALES made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off ten hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

In other batting news, RACHEL HUNT was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was LUCY FRANKO, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.

South Bend Riley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

South Bend Riley pushed their record up to 17-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan Township, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-12.

Coming up, South Bend Riley will face off against Michigan City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Morgan Township does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
