Baseball Game Preview: Seventy-First Falcons vs. Purnell Swett Rams

Seventy-First is 0-10 against Purnell Swett since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Seventy-First Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Purnell Swett Rams at 6:00 p.m. Seventy-First has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Shawn Carroll put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Seventy-First is 2-1 when Carroll posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-5 otherwise.

Carroll wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nasir Nelson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Purnell Swett entered their tilt with South View on Friday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Tigers.

Like Seventy-First, Purnell Swett also got a great game from a two-way player: Chandon Sanderson. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Sanderson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Purnell Swett now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Seventy-First, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
