Football Recap: Falfurrias Takes a Loss

Falfurrias extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They took a 20-6 bruising from the Lyford Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fightin' Jerseys of the 14-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

As for Lyford, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.5 points on average over those games.

Among those leading the charge was Ryan Gonzales, who rushed for 61 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Falfurrias and Rio Hondo will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Bobcats' defense has only allowed 11.8 points per game this season, so the Fightin' Jerseys' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Lyford, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Raymondville at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Bearkats have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
