Baseball Game Preview: Marian Catholic vs. Allentown Central Catholic Vikings

Marian Catholic will head out on the road to take on the Allentown Central Catholic Vikings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marian Catholic not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024. They never let Weatherly get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Marian Catholic's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, on Friday Allentown Central Catholic's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Pleasant Valley. While the Vikings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Pleasant Valley's batters probably weren't too happy with Matthew Rader, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up a single walk).

At the plate, Allentown Central Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Cahill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Nolan Young also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Allentown Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Allentown Central Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marian Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
