Volleyball Recap: Warsaw Starts Season with Victory Against Mccutcheon

Warsaw gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the McCutcheon Mavericks 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since September 28, 2024.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (99-98) Warsaw actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-18, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10.

Warsaw's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellie Hepler led the charge by getting 18 digs and five assists. Hepler has been hot, having posted 15 or more digs the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avary Hoeppner, who had nine digs and two aces.

Coincidentally, Warsaw and McCutcheon will both be playing Hamilton Southeastern the next time they take the court. The Tigers will host the Royals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Mavericks will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
