Volleyball Game Preview: Arlington Spy Ponders vs. Malden Golden Tornados

The Arlington Spy Ponders will challenge the Malden Golden Tornados at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.

Arlington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: Lexington, who was ranked second at the time (Arlington was ranked 23rd). The Spy Ponders came up short against the Minutemen on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Spy Ponders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While Arlington had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-19, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Malden entered their tilt with Lynn Classical on Wednesday with 11 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 12. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Rams.

Arlington's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Malden, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Arlington couldn't quite get it done against Malden in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Spy Ponders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
