Baseball Recap: Mare Island Tech Academy Victorious

Mare Island Tech Academy proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 11) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy Grizzlies 6-5. For the Griffins, this counts as revenge for the 8-6 victory the Grizzlies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Noel Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Mare Island Tech Academy let Salmaan Abdi and Josue Jarquin run wild. Abdi went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Jarquin scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Ochoa, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Mare Island Tech Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Mare Island Tech Academy will face off against Leadership Public Schools Richmond at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Griffins are facing the Pumas at the right time seeing as the Pumas are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy, they will be playing at home against Leadership at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leadership has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.2 runs per game on average), something Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
