Recap: Mitchell Tigers vs. Southeast Cyclones

The Mitchell Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 40-20 loss at the hands of Southeast. While losing is never fun, Mitchell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 216th in Nebraska, while Southeast is ranked 18th in Wyoming).

Addy Bowlin and Jolee Schwery certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Bowlin scored 15 points, while Schwery scored three points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Schwery posted two or more blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southeast to victory, but perhaps none more so than Baylie Booth, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Kaycee Kosmicki, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Mitchell's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-12. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Southeast, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Mitchell will play host again and welcome Kimball, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southeast, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Niobrara County at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Niobrara County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
