League recap: Monessen stuns Canevin Catholic in upset

WPIAL A Black Hills recap Oct. 3, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Monessen, who took down 76th ranked Canevin Catholic, 28-21.

California moved up to 389 from 427 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL A Black Hills. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of a 48-7 win over Serra Catholic.

Imani Christian Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Khari Hicks threw for 309 and five touchdowns and Brendan Edwards had 153 yards receiving. On the ground Ron Brown chipped in 109 yards. Eric Scott helped Imani Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching six balls for 109 yards.

The Saints' Hicks and Scott have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hicks has thrown for 1195 yards this season, while Scott, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 26 catches for 457 yards. Kolten Kobrys from Fort Cherry leads the league in rushing with 585 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brentwood takes on Clairton. At the moment, the Spartans are in fifth, while the Bears are in first.

Clairton extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL A Black Hills this week by beating the Rangers, 65-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for Tom Nola's team.
