Baseball Recap: Grulla Triumphs

Grulla had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-7-1 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Raymondville Bearkats 5-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-2 back in March.

CARLOS BELMARES was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Grulla is 2-1 when BELMARES allows one or fewer hits, but 3-6-1 otherwise. BELMARES was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, NORIEL PENA was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Raymondville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-9. The loss was just more heartbreak for they who fell 4-2 when the teams previously met back in April of 2024.

On Raymondville's side, Carlos Montes was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grulla will head out to take on La Feria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Raymondville, they will venture away from home to challenge Rio Hondo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
