Preview: Amherst Broncos vs. Broken Bow Indians

The Amherst Broncos will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Broken Bow Indians. The timing is sure in Amherst's favor as the team sits on 16 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Broken Bow has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

Last Friday, Amherst's game was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Elm Creek by a score of 64-52. Given Amherst's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Elm Creek is ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amherst had a senior duo take command as Tayje Hadwiger dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds and Austin Adelung scored 23 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hadwiger has scored at least a third of Amherst's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Russell, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Broken Bow lost to Cozad at home by a decisive 59-40 margin on Thursday.

Amherst is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. As for Broken Bow, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Everything came up roses for Amherst against Broken Bow in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 66-31 win. Will Amherst repeat their success, or does Broken Bow have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
