Softball Recap: Monmouth United Red Storm vs. Stark County Rebels
Monmouth United had lost seven straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-23 to make it eight. They lost 16-1 to the Stark County Rebels. The Red Storm were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
As for Stark County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.
For Stark County's part, Brooklynn Ostrowski was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ostrowski has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cambri Holmstrom was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Anna Nagode also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monmouth United will venture away from home to face off against ROWVA/Williamsfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Storm are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Stark County, they will head out on the road to challenge Bureau Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
