The Pacifica Mariners will take on the JSerra Catholic Lions at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Pacifica is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Cypress 9-8. The victory was familiar territory for the Mariners, who have now won four contests in a row.
Mattea Stern was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Sanaiyah Cleland was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pacifica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 15 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, JSerra Catholic narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Ayala 5-4. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by just one run.
Liliana Escobar spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zena Edwards and Annabel Raftery did most of the damage at the plate: Edwards went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Raftery went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Lamb, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
JSerra Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 22-8. As for Pacifica, their win bumped their record up to 19-10.
Pacifica came out on top in a nail-biter against JSerra Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
