Game recap: Pleasant Grove high school football team clinches victory over Ponderosa with strong fourth quarter

Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove, Calif.) had a comfortable lead entering the fourth quarter, but used 15 fourth quarter points to seal the 35-7 victory over Ponderosa (Shingle Springs, Calif.).

The Eagles were up 20-0 at the half after taking the lead on a defensive touchdown in the first quarter.

Pleasant Grove saw its 20-point halftime lead fall to 13 entering the fourth.

Deaundre Terrell was the top performer for PG. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.



Jake Bist made a difference for the Bruins. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown.

Ponderosa's lone touchdown came on a 40-yard pass from Bist to Josh Bist in the third quarter.

PHS came in giving up 7.7 points per game this season. The Shingle Springs school struggled against the Elk Grove school's offense, which entered the game scoring 35.8 points per game. The Eagles came in allowing an average of 26.5 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding the Bruins well below their season average of 40.7 points scored per game.

When the two teams played each other last season, PG came away with a 58-7 victory.

The loss comes after Ponderosa defeated Jesuit 17-3 last week. With the win the Eagles extended their winning streak to three games.

Ponderosa (5-2) goes up against Oak Ridge in a Delta River game matchup next week, while Pleasant Grove (5-2) locks horns with Jesuit also in a Delta River game.
