Basketball Recap: Hamilton Takes a Loss

Hamilton and Weed squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Hamilton had to settle for second. They came up short against the Weed Cougars, falling 71-47. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 876th, while the Cougars are ranked 273rd).

Despite the loss, Hamilton still got an impressive performance from Case Porter, who posted 22 points along with eight boards and four steals. That was a full 46.8% of Hamilton's points, marking the third time in a row Porter has scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kayden Strong, who earned 13 points and six rebounds.

Jaxon King continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Weed, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards. What's more, King posted four blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Logan Bowles was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Hamilton now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Weed, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 22-6.

Hamilton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Weed, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-48 victory against Mt. Shasta on the 27th.
