Marshall dropped their record down to 6-3 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the South Vermillion Wildcats by a score of 18-17. On the bright side, the 17- run performance marked the Lions' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Rylan Ramey led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Garrett Pugh, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

As for South Vermillion, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

On South Vermillion's side, Parker Weir was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Weir has posted since back in May of 2024. Dallas Coleman was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-1 loss against Lawrenceville on the 24th. As for South Vermillion, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 15-9 defeat against Sullivan on the 21st.
