Baseball Game Preview: Columbus East Olympians vs. Batesville Bulldogs

Columbus East is a perfect 3-0 against Batesville since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Olympians will challenge the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Columbus East is headed into the match having just posted their closest victory since May 17, 2024 on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Southport 4-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Olympians as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Drew Rotert tossed a big game, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Columbus East saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Wilkinson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Batesville). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Lawrenceburg on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won four games in a row.

Columbus East's record is now 6-11. As for Batesville, their record now sits at 11-3.

Columbus East came out on top in a nail-biter against Batesville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Olympians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
