Baseball Game Preview: Sheffield Bulldogs vs. Colbert County Indians

For the second straight game, Sheffield will face off against Colbert County. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sheffield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Colbert County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Indians a 12-0 shutout on Tuesday. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.

Bryant Doll was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Doll was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Sheffield got a massive performance out of Skyler Johnston, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Johnston has become a key player for the Bulldogs: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 9-10 otherwise. Jack Vallejo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sheffield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colbert County only posted an OBP of .292.

With the victory, Sheffield broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-10. As for Colbert County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.

Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sheffield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Colbert County struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
