Softball Recap: Lane Tech Wins Going Away Against ITW David Speer Academy

Lane Tech came out on top against ITW David Speer Academy on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Champions put the hurt on the Pride with a sharp 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Champions, who have now won 13 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Grace Thornley looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Olivia Segura and Gianna Phillips did most of the damage at the plate: Segura went 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs, while Phillips went 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Phillips has posted over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Hannah Roeder, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Lane Tech's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-10. As for ITW David Speer Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.

Lane Tech wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 5-3 win against Taft on the 3rd. As for ITW David Speer Academy, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Payton College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on the 13th.
