Baseball Game Preview: Los Gatos Wildcats vs. Milpitas Trojans

Los Gatos has gone 7-1 against Milpitas recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Wildcats will square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Los Gatos has 12 straight wins, Milpitas has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Los Gatos gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over James Logan.

Nicholas Olcott and Gavin Seiler dominated on the mound. Olcott pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits, while Seiler didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Olcott a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Julian McMahon and Rowen Smith did most of the damage at the plate: McMahon went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Zach Biller was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Milpitas fell victim to Palo Alto and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 9-0 to the Vikings.

Los Gatos' win was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Milpitas, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Everything went Los Gatos' way against Milpitas when the teams last played back in March of 2018, as Los Gatos made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
