Basketball Recap: San Diego Takes a Loss

San Diego lost against Montgomery back in December of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The San Diego Cavers received a blow as they fell 65-49 to the Montgomery Aztecs. While losing is never fun, the Cavers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Aztecs are ranked tenth).

Despite the loss, San Diego still got an impressive performance from Isaiah Marte, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 22 points and five assists. The matchup was Marte's 19th in a row with at least 15 points. Treyshawn Degrate was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Montgomery to victory, but perhaps none more so than Devin Hamilton, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Hamilton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Xair Mendez, who went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

San Diego's defeat dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Montgomery, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-2.

San Diego wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-38 win against St. Joseph Academy on the 12th. As for Montgomery, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-44 victory against Victory Christian Academy on the 11th.
