Preview: Center Moriches Red Devils vs. Southampton Mariners
The Center Moriches Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Southampton Mariners at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Center Moriches and 11 for Southampton.
Last Friday, Center Moriches took a serious blow against Shoreham-Wading River, falling 47-20.
Meanwhile, Southampton was the victim of a tough 61-38 defeat at the hands of Mount Sinai on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Southampton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 709th, while Mount Sinai is ranked 246th).
Daelyn Palmore put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 15 points. That was a full 39.5% of Southampton's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Center Moriches' defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Southampton, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-16.
Center Moriches strolled past Southampton when the teams last played back in January by a score of 44-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Center Moriches since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
