Newton extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Gillespie. They skirted past the Miners 5-3. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on five straight.

Newton pushed their record up to 25-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gillespie, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-8.

Looking ahead, Newton will challenge Columbia at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Newton 1.9, Columbia 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Gillespie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
