Baseball Recap: Sewickley Academy Beats Monessen for Their Third Straight Victory

Sewickley Academy extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 4-9 in the process. They put the hurt on the Monessen Greyhounds with a sharp 11-4 win. Considering Sewickley Academy has won four contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Fritz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has become a key player for Sewickley Academy: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-8 otherwise. Fritz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlie Scally, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Karan Kad, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Sewickley Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .528 or higher in three consecutive games.

As for Monessen, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. They haven't had much luck with Sewickley Academy recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

On Monessen's side, RJ DiEugenio made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
