Softball Game Preview: Western Hills Wolverines vs. Franklin County Flyers

The Western Hills Wolverines will square off against the Franklin County Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Western Hills didn't have quite enough to beat Fern Creek and fell 2-1. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Western Hills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Muravchick, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Franklin County came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cougars 19-4. Considering the Flyers have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Camryn Kelly was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lillie Pollard, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one double.

Franklin County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Franklin County's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Western Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Western Hills hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Franklin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Western Hills beat Franklin County 14-11 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flyers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
