The Elysian Fields Yellowjackets will venture away from home to take on the Beckville Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elysian Fields has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Beckville will come in with six straight victories.
Last Friday, Elysian Fields came up short against Union Grove and fell 15-11.
Layla Adkins put in work no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Madi Owens led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avery Woodley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
Even though they lost, Elysian Fields kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Beckville challenged Waskom on Friday. Beckville's pitcher stepped up to hand Waskom an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won 12 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Emily Grandgeorge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Beckville got a massive performance out of Gracey Struwe, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Landrie Dennard was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.
Beckville's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Elysian Fields, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Elysian Fields has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Beckville struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elysian Fields might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Beckville in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Elysian Fields avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
