Baseball Game Preview: Voyager Academy Vikings vs. South Central Falcons

The Voyager Academy Vikings will challenge the South Central Falcons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Voyager Academy 1.2, South Central 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Voyager Academy easily dispatched Durham Academy on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Vikings fell just short of Reidsville by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The loss was the Vikings' first of the season.

Voyager Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another was Hayden Van Auken, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, South Central narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past New Bern 9-8. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Having lost for the first time this season, Voyager Academy fell to 13-1. As for South Central, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.

Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Voyager Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
