Softball Recap: Highlands Takes a Loss

After flying high against Russell on Monday, Highlands came back down to earth. Highlands fell just short of the Rowan County Vikings by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bluebirds have suffered since May 11, 2024.

Kaitlyn Dixon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Highlands saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Brown, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Highlands' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4-1. As for Rowan County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Highlands will be playing in front of their home fans against Bullitt East at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rowan County, they will challenge Parkersburg South at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
