Softball Recap: Malden Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Malden won against Portageville on Saturday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Green Wave came out on top in a nail-biter against the New Madrid County Central Eagles, sneaking past 11-9. This was a revenge game for the Green Wave: when they faced off against the Eagles back in March, they had to take a 6-4 defeat.

Alyssa Broom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Malden let Mariah Loya and Carsyn Cohen run wild. Loya went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Cohen went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Loya has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played. Jaylee Brown was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Malden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .525 or higher in four consecutive games.

Malden is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. As for New Madrid County Central, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-5-1.

Malden wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-9 defeat against Kennett on the 13th. New Madrid County Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
