3A Region I District 5 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Hirschi's Cedrick Battle recorded the longest rushing play in 3A Region I District 5 this season in his game against Krum last week. Battle scampered for 81 yards on the play and finished with 98 on the day as his team lost to the Bobcats.
Vernon moved up to 142 from 186 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 41-0 win over Pampa helped the Lions improve their standing.
Graham's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ben Davis threw for 261 and two touchdowns and Bryce Reeves had 100 yards receiving. On the ground Dillon Gonzales chipped in 156 yards. Jerrod Mahan helped Graham's passing attack out by catching two balls for 77 yards.
Graham's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Steers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 864 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Reeves has 23 catches for 344 yards. Gonzales leads the league in rushing with 579 yards.
Vernon extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region I District 5 this week by beating the Harvesters, 41-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
