Preview: Atlee Raiders vs. Mechanicsville Mustangs
Two dominant guards in Vasiliki Sotos and Kedelin Santos are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Atlee Raiders will head out on the road to take on the Mechanicsville Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Atlee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Mechanicsville is ranked 120th).
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Atlee beat Varina 53-47. The victory was just what Atlee needed coming off of a 63-28 defeat in their prior game.
In what's become a running theme this season, Mechanicsville gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past Patrick Henry, posting a 55-19 win at home. The victory was just what Mechanicsville needed coming off of a 71-34 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mechanicsville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elizabeth Hardwick, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Hardwick is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Santos was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Atlee's record now sits at 5-13. Mechanicsville's record now sits at 13-7.
Atlee came up short against Mechanicsville in their previous matchup back in January, falling 63-53. Can Atlee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
