Downriver recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Woodhaven, who defeated 275th ranked Carlson, 47-35.
The Warriors scaled the state rankings by moving to 321 from 364 this week, the biggest jump in Downriver. Woodhaven climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Marauders 47-35.
Christian Mercure provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Trenton defeated Anderson. He completed 9 passes for 90 yards and also ran for 139 yards.
Dylan Brock threw for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Devontae' McCuien was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 4 carries, he ran for 203 yards as Truman beat Melvindale. Devonte McGregor also contributed to the rushing game with 77 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Bears' Donovan Stewart and Sowards have proven to be a lethal combination. Stewart has thrown for 583 yards this season, while Sowards, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 20 catches for 522 yards. The Trojans' Mercure leads the league in rushing yards with 565.
An important game coming up in Downriver this week will be when Allen Park takes on the Cougars. As it stands, the Jaguars are in fourth, while Truman is in first.
Eric Stiegel's team added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lincoln Park, 60-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Cougars.
