Softball Game Preview: Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers vs. McDonogh Eagles

The Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers will venture away from home to face off against the McDonogh Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Archbishop Spalding is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.

Archbishop Spalding had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Mercy on Tuesday. The Cavaliers blew past the Magic 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Cessi Prince looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taylor Codi was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Rowley, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, McDonogh didn't have quite enough to beat John Carroll on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McDonogh's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Archbishop Spalding, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

Everything went Archbishop Spalding's way against McDonogh when the teams last played on April 9th, as Archbishop Spalding made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
