Basketball Game Preview: Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans vs. Trinity Tigers

The Coldspring-Oakhurst Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Trinity Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Coldspring-Oakhurst is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 13, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against New Waverly, falling 67-46. The Trojans have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 63 points the game before, Trinity was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They took a blow against Anderson-Shiro, falling 46-17. The game marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Trinity saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mariah Tyson posted seven points along with ten boards and five steals. Tyson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 21 games she's played.

Even though they lost, Trinity smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests.

Coldspring-Oakhurst's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-9. As for Trinity, they dropped their record down to 19-10 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coldspring-Oakhurst took their victory against Trinity in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 49-28. Will Coldspring-Oakhurst repeat their success, or does Trinity have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
