The Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots will face off against the Lighthouse Private Christian Academy Stingrays at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association's tournament run continued when they took on HCYA on Saturday. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over HCYA.
Pierson GOODMAN made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association let Josiah PULLING and Collin FELTS run wild. PULLING went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while FELTS got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. Keegan HAGER was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lighthouse Private Christian Academy came tearing into back in April's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Conquerors with a sharp 16-3 victory. The Stingrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on B Nelson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was David Chapellin, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
Lighthouse Private Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Florida Baptist Academy only posted an OBP of .320.
Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lighthouse Private Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Lighthouse Private Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .469.
