Basketball Recap: Sand Creek Takes a Loss

Sand Creek has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Classical Academy Titans on Tuesday. The Scorpions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Titans earlier this season, when they won 62-55.

Despite the loss, Sand Creek still got an impressive performance from Elijah Brotherns, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 19 points and three steals. What's more, Brotherns also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Josh Kotto was another key player, putting up four points.

The Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ky Walker, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards. The game was Walker's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Ben Mullenix, who posted 16 points and five assists.

Sand Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for The Classical Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Sand Creek and The Classical Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Sand Creek (ranked 95th) will meet Elizabeth (ranked 221st) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sand Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64 points per game this season. Similarly, The Classical Academy will take on Sierra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 243 places (46 vs. 289).
