Softball Recap: Derby Red Raiders vs. Waterbury Career Academy Spartans
Derby extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-5 in the process. They came up short against the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans, falling 23-11. Even if the Red Raiders couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Alex Davis was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Waterbury Career Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Waterbury Career Academy's side, Payton Godfrey was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Godfrey has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Sanchez, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Derby will head out to challenge Harding at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Waterbury Career Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
