Softball Recap: Mabel-Canton Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mabel-Canton entered their tilt with Lourdes on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 19, 2024.

Tylar Wenthold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lainey Hosting, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Vatland, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Mabel-Canton's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Lourdes, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mabel-Canton will take on Schaeffer Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lourdes, they will square off against Byron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
